HOW TO: Transition Your Wardrobe From Summer to Autumn

Autumn is finally here, meaning we are well on our way to Christmas and that makes me sooo excited. I’m definitely one of those people who by January is ‘sooo ready for Summer’ but in Summer is ‘sooo ready for Winter.’

I get bored so easily and with the long seasons here in the UK, we end up wearing Winter clothes for the longest time ever, however, at this point in the year I can’t wait to get my big coats, scarves and boots out the back of my wardrobe.

LAYERS
As much as I love Winter, I hate being cold. The word ‘thermal’ may remind you of being forced to wear some ugly top by your Mother at junior school and I for one rebelled as much as I could until there comes a point in your life when you realise your Mother is always, always right in the end. Look out for cosy jumpers and thermal tops on the high street to build up some layers – Marks and Spencer’s do some lovely pieces around this time of year, as well as basic thin knits from Zara and Topshop.

Cashmere is your best friend at this time of year; so snug and soft, whilst keeping you extra warm and looking chic. John Lewis do a range of crew and polo neck styles, with a whole load of colours – slightly more expensive but you get what you pay for.

Layer up with tops, jackets, gilets and scarves so you are prepared for a freezing morning that turns into a boiling afternoon in a typical British weather style…Keep stylish but be practical and your Autumn/Winter wardrobe will slaaaay.

COATS
I think for us Brits, it is essential to invest in some thick and warm but fashionable coats and jackets. It gets so cold here and being from Scotland myself, I have been coat-collecting for minus temperatures since day one. Anyone who has ever looked in my wardrobe has without a doubt commented on how many jackets and coats I own. (Maybe this could be a post on its own?). My typical style in Autumn and Winter is keeping my outfit simple but jazzing it up by throwing a statement coat over the top – effortless warmth. My favourite style is a maxi coat; I have them in all different colours and varying lengths, as well as shearling bombers and a few higher end styles such as Moncler and Canada Goose (essential in the Highlands of Scotland!!).

SHOES
I live in boots and trainers all year round and have a slightly concerning amount of shoes in my wardrobe. I would advise getting a couple of different styles of boots and chunky trainers to see you through the weird mix of weather. You can never go wrong with black boots; keep them interesting with different styles such as buckles and varying heights of heel.
