Knitwear: How To

Big chunky jumpers and cosy knitwear are absolutely essential at this time of year and it’s a trend that I certainly immerse myself into. I love fashion but I also love being comfortable and warm, more so than looking good- so when the weather gets colder, I get so excited to pull all my big jumpers and snuggly trousers out of the back of the wardrobe and walk around for the next four months feeling like I’m wearing my pyjamas!

For example, this amazing woollen two piece from Zara. It’s a dream, comfy,
cosy and can easily be dressed up or worn casually.

It wouldn’t be right to publish a post on this blog without raving about the weekly produce of Zara (send help), and it definitely doesn’t help that there is a store literally one minute walk from my flat! They start to bring out all their amazing knitwear at this time of year, from oversized jumpers (which I lived in at University), adorable two-piece skirt and top sets, trousers and midi length skirts and dresses, you really can’t go wrong.

I found this co-ord to wear for an event in London last week – it comes in black also but I decided to go for something a little different and brighten up my outfit for a day!
The material is sooo soft and the contrasting black stripes down the sides of each piece adds a sports-lux feel to the overall look. I paired it with a leather jacket for warmth and my trusty Gucci loafers & belt.

There are a few simple guidelines I follow when it comes to buying knitwear..

KEY PIECES
Seeking out key pieces is something I always try to do – of course I have a lot of basics, but I think owning a few really unique pieces can take your Autumn/Winter wardrobe to the next level. Especially as it’s getting colder meaning layers and big jackets are becoming essential, having some cool, stand-out pieces are ideal. Wearing knitwear can sometimes lead to a super casual look, so having a co-ord like this means you have a chic but cosy outfit to wear for events, dinners and going out with the girls! I would add a pair of heels and more dressy jacket to create an evening outfit.

ACCESSORISE
Adding some lux accessories will always bring your outfit to a new level, and I think this works perfectly for knitwear. Adding a good handbag or pair of shoes can bring your knitwear from day to night.

QUALITY
Look for pieces which are of a higher quality than your bog standard high street items, they will not only look higher end but they will also keep you warmer and won’t loose their shape with daily wear and washing. I have some pieces which I have now had for years and years through the cold weather and they still look as good as new. The White Company are my absolute favourite for big knits and jumpers.
